ELC Funding in Davie

Early Learning Coalition (ELC)

Government-Funded Childcare Assistance

The Early Learning Coalition (ELC) is a state program that provides financial assistance for early learning programs throughout Florida.

Who is it for?  Infants to 5 year olds—all preschool ages.

How does it work? Funding is based on family needs and income. Parents apply directly to the ELC, which determines eligibility and the level of tuition assistance.

This is a great option if: You are looking for ongoing assistance for your child based on your family's financial situation.

There are two programs that ELC offers that you could be eligible for:

Step up for students

1. School Readiness

Offered by the ELC

ELC Broward School Readiness Program offers financial assistance to income-eligible families to obtain affordable, high-quality childcare & aftercare in Broward County for children ages birth to 13 years old.

  • Who is it for? Children from birth through to 13 years of age

  • How does it work?  If you work or study for more than 20 hours a week, or are temporarily/permanently disabled, your family could be entitled to financial assistance if your income is below the required threshold. You can apply to both the School Readiness and VPK programs.

This is a great option if: you are a low-income family with disability requirements and/or are in education or work for more than 20 hours a week.


Learn More & Apply: Your first step is to check your eligibility in Broward county via the ELC website. You can begin your application at elcbroward.org — simply click on the Families tab for information, and apply.

2. Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK)

Offered by the ELC. Florida's Free Pre-K Program

VPK is a free program designed to prepare every four-year-old in Florida for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success.

  • Who is it for? All children in Florida who turn 4 years old by September 1st.

  • How does it work? Every eligible child is entitled to a year of VPK at no cost, providing 3 free instructional hours. If you enroll full-time with VPK funding, you will pay for the remaining wraparound care. My First Years Preschool is a proud VPK provider, offering a high-quality curriculum during these hours. You can apply to both the VPK and School Readiness for full-time care.

This is a great option if: Your child is four years old and ready for a structured pre-kindergarten experience.

Step up for students

Step Up For Students

Scholarship Opportunities

Step Up For Students is a nonprofit organization that administers scholarship programs for Florida schoolchildren.

  • Who is it for? There are scholarships for children of all ages, including preschool age children (3 to 5 years old).

  • How does it work? This is a scholarship that families apply for directly through Step Up For Students. If awarded, the funds can be used at approved schools like ours.

This is a great option if: You are exploring private scholarship opportunities for your child.
